A medical assistant deals with all sorts of patients, ranging from the most gentle to the most irritable and with medical conditions ranging from the most minor such as fever to the most life-threatening such as cancer. Because of these, certain job skills are required in a medical assistant.

He/she must be cheerful, polite and well-mannered to put patients at ease and efficiently deal with the public. He/she must have manual adroitness and visual keenness to perform particular clinical functions. He/she must also personally have a respect for privacy of other because the medical records of patients are deemed confidential, thus, he/she must have strong ethical standards and professional observance of confidentiality.

He/she must have extreme perseverance and patience in dealing with irritable patients and performing tiring routine duties. A strong attention to detail is also a must so that clinical functions are done efficiently and accurately. He/she must have excellent communication skills, both in speaking and listening, to clearly explain the physician’s instructions. 1 Approach each project as if the audience is the company president or will be shown on television or used at a conference of your peers. Think about showing a videotape of your participation at the typical Monday morning staff meeting to the entire company. Would your approach to that meeting be the same? 2 Employ the “best practices” from others in your field. This mindset requires that you continually research your function and industry to ensure you are aware of current best practices. Conduct your homework both inside and outside of your current organization. For example, if one of your peers has been recognized for a particular area of outstanding work; then you should “claim and rename.” By this I mean that you should find a way to incorporate their techniques into your approach.

There are two methods that I recommend you employ to learn best practices:

1) read at least one book and several periodicals per month that cover your industry and function. They can be a great source of information and ideas.

2) Volunteer to represent your function or organization at conferences. These are fantastic opportunities to listen to presentations, network with others, and keep abreast of new and evolving developments in your field.

Beyond gaining information, commit to action. Try one or two of the ideas. Adjust them for your style and organization. The key is to use the input to improve your performance. 3 Provide thorough and accurate communication. Some people have a knack for making mediocre performance look better than it really is. But longevity and advancement gravitate to those with strong performance that is well packaged. Reflect on the times when someone presented a topic well because of both the quality of the subject matter, and the delivery. This happens daily in many settings-meeting recaps, leading a group, training, sharing information with other departments, etc. Take advantage of these opportunities to deliver excellent content, well. Another useful tool is the “next morning” rule. This is particularly helpful with email.

It is very helpful when you complete an assignment at the end of the day; consider reviewing it the next morning before sending. You have given yourself an opportunity for a fresh review of the material. This usually guarantees an improvement in the finished product. There are additional benefits of the “next morning” rule in e-mails. As you know, an e-mail can live forever. Therefore, it is important that it represents you appropriately. Teenagers who will be job searching this summer will most likely have very little experience and work history. They will have no resume or significant work experience and they are hoping to land their first job and to get their foot in the door somewhere. They will qualify for hourly paid jobs most often and they are best because they can do them part time after school or on the weekends.

Teens usually look for jobs so that they can make some date money and money to spend on video games and such. They also might be trying to get some work experience under their belt. But now that the economy is so bad, a lot of teen might be looking for work because they really need it to help their parents.

Unfortunately for them though, right now might be one of the hardest times to get any type of job as employers are cutting back and hiring less. The best course of action for a teen in this situation is to be persistent and just keep knocking on doors. The more contacts a teen makes and the more enthusiastic about working they are, the better the chances they will eventually find an employer who will take a chance on them.

It has never been easy to find jobs for teenagers. Most employers are hiring only those with some sort of work history or experience and someone who is an adult. Teens might have experience with babysitting jobs or yard work jobs but other than that they probably don’t have much of a work history. Because of their age, they are also limited to what they can do because they can’t drive and can’t work in places where you have to be 18.

2009 might be one of the hardest times ever for teenagers who are hoping to find a job and make some extra money. Because of the economy there will most certainly be fewer jobs available for everyone. Many businesses have had to cut back their hiring or have even gone out of business. Because of this, many of the jobs that might have gone to teens in years past might now even go to adults who are out of work.

The teenagers that do ultimately get jobs will probably be the ones with the best work history and the ones that have done the most networking. If a teen really wants a job, the more contacts he or she makes with potential employers will benefit them greatly. If you show and employer that you are serious and are enthusiastic about working, it will increase your chances of getting hired as your employer will like your attitude. Businesses always want to hire the best candidates who show the most potential and your attitude and demeanor while pursuing the jobs will take you a long way.

If you are a teenager who is looking for some extra cash, your best bet is to get a part time job. You can choose from many different kinds of jobs. Unfortunately, you probably won’t find your dream job with high pay for easy work, but you can find something to make you some extra money.

Most likely, if you are young and this is your first job, you won’t be able to get a job at a fancy restaurant. If you want to do just about any job available there short of washing the floors, you need experience and you might have to be older, such as if you’re going to serve alcohol.

If you want to work at a diner, you could possibly get a job, but it still wouldn’t be easy. You’d probably start out hosting or clearing tables, but you could later wait tables and make tips. Working at a diner is good experience to work up experience to work at a more expensive restaurant.

Getting a job at a fast food restaurant is not hard. You probably see a lot of teens you’re age working at fast food places. These jobs don’t really require any skills, but they don’t pay that great either, so you have to keep that in mind.

Fast food jobs aren’t the best jobs out there, not even for teenagers, but if you can deal with the stress of nasty customers you can manage. It’s not that bad, but if it proves to be too much for you, look for a better job.

You’re not going to consider working at a restaurant, any kind of restaurant, as an amazing and fun job, but you will make some money. If you can handle it you can work your way up to better a better paying job.

What You Should Never Tell Them At Your Job Interview

For an employer with a job to fill, the selection process is a matter of weeding out the candidates who are wrong for the job, until only the right one is left. For you to be that successful candidate, you have to keep from being weeded out, and that means you must not come across in a way the boss believes is negative.

Consider the boss’s problem. He/she must take a group of, say, ten candidates and determine which one will become the new employee. The solution: Find reasons to weed out nine of the candidates, and hire the one who’s left. (Unless, of course, none of them makes the cut, in which case the boss must find a new group of candidates and start the game all over again.)

It’s a time consuming and often a costly project, and the boss may make decisions for reasons that don’t always make good sense. Often, he or she is more concerned with getting the job done than with objectivity and fairness. Even the smallest negative in your background or your attitude may get you disqualified.

When the boss is all done, there’s one successful candidate, and nine who are unsuccessful.

Usually the person who wins the job, even if there are only two candidates, is the one who gives the employer no reason to disqualify him or her. The employer wants to play safe, to choose the candidate who can do the job, with no risk. You want to convince the employer that you have the right stuff, and no liabilities that count against you.

You must find out what the boss wants, then show it what you’re offering. It’s risky trying to sell yourself, in a letter or an interview, on the basis of some personal quality or element in your background, until you’re reasonably certain the employer sees it as an asset. If he or she sees it as a negative, you could be weeded out on the spot.

Remember, the boss is looking for reasons to disqualify people. There are ten candidates, but only one job.

Volunteer that you’re an independent thinker, and you could be cutting your own throat. This company may be built on strong centralized management, where all ideas originate at the top levels. Talk about yourself as an independent thinker, and you could brand yourself as a maverick, and that alone may disqualify you.

Tell them you’re an active Democrat, and you may be talking to a red-hot Republican who believes all Democrats are tax-and-spend liberals who don’t know the value of a dollar. So you’re out.

There’s nothing at all wrong about being an independent thinker or a Democrat. If you were in the job, you’d do quite well at it. The point here is, until you understand what the company is looking for, keep extraneous information to yourself. It has nothing at all to do with how well you can do the job, but it can get you weeded out in a hurry.

Don’t volunteer any information about yourself until you’re sure the boss will see it as an asset. Until you really know what they want, say little about yourself.

At this point, your are the source of what they know about you. If you don’t reveal something to them, it simply doesn’t exist.
